Welcome to Real Time Wargame Rules from Bernie, Brian, Gareth, Keith & Martyn
“FOR, LORDS, TO-MORROW IS A BUSY DAY”
Wargame Rules for
the War of the Roses
The Wars of the Roses racked Britain between 1450’s to 1480’s and while the actual
campaigning time for the entire period lasted only a few months produced a large
number of varied and very bloody battles. Martyn’s intention was to portray a game
that simulates the description from say a battle in a chapter from a book and therefore
emphasise the key features: the deployment of forces, the leaders and their ability
and the battle plan. Rules that were period specific and therefore rules that are
as simple as possible. Martyn's rules are a real pleasure to play, as you often do
not know the result till the last die has been rolled - knowing you have got away
while everyone around you have been butchered is a real gaming moment!
Scope: Included in the pack is a set of highly innovative rules to fight battles
of the period. Players pick their deployment from a number of strategy cards depending
on the ability of their leader and the presence of foreign mercenary captains. Movement
is by intention so no rulers are needed and combat is very bloody emphasising the
affect of the longbow, bill units, treason and the strategem cards. There is a non-map
campaign system to generate battles, but there is also a system for fighting one-off
Book: 31 page ring bound rules with colour cover with b&w content. There is a two-page
playsheet, which is also the back cover.
Game Aids: 2 A4 colour campaign sheets, showing prestige points, number of battles
fought and status of leaders. There are 3 A4 card sheets of the various strategy
cards used in the battles.
